چکیده

growth hormone (HGH) levels was investigated in normal young male subjects. The administration of nicotinic acid with its concomitant lowering of plasma FFA was followed by a rise of plasma HGH. The HGH rise could be inhibited by the simultaneous administration of heparin which prevented the fall of plasma FFA, or by glucose administration. The administration of heparin alone resulted in an increase of plasma HGH also in association with the fall of plasma FFA in the absence of any changes in plasma glucose levels. The rise of plasma HGH failed to occur when plasma FFA was kept elevated or when glucose was given. From these results, it was suggested that the fall of plasma FFA has a stimulatory effect and in turn, the elevated plasma FFA has an inhibitory effect on HGH secretion.

The Effects of Simvastatin on Free Fatty Acids Profile in Fructose-fed Insulin Resistant Rats

Backgrounds: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disease and free fatty acids, as signaling molecules, can play a crucial role in the development of it. Different free fatty acids, through various cell membrane receptors, induce different effects on metabolic pathways and thereby affect insulin sensitivity. Simvastatin is a cholesterol decreasing drug prescrib...

Effect of changes in plasma levels of free fatty acids on plasma glucagon, insulin, and growth hormone in man.

A regulatory role of acute changes in plasma concentration of free fatty acids on glucagon secretion has been suggested. We have studied the effect of such changes on plasma levels of glucagon, insulin, and growth hormone in man. Basal plasma levels of immunoreactive glucagon (IRG) were only slightly raised in 11 healthy subjects when the mean concentration of free fatty acids (FFA) was depress...

Effects of Ramadan fasting on plasma free fatty acids in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Introduction: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global disease which its prevalence is about 10-35%. Several factors are involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of fasting during Ramadan on plasma free fatty acids in patients with NAFLD.Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed during the month of Ramadan in June-Ju...

Effect of lipids on insulin, growth hormone and exocrine pancreatic secretion in man.

Influences of fat on release of insulin, growth hormone and pancreatic enzyme secretion were studied in 35 metabolically healthy subjects. A fat solution containing 40 g of soy bean oil was administered, I.V., orally and intraduodenally. In all cases there was a similar increase of insulin but the rise in serum insulin after oral or intraduodenal fat administration was not related to the change...

Effect of lipids on growth hormone secretion in humans.

To determine the effect of elevations of plasma lipids on growth hormone secretion in humans, paired insulin hypoglycemia tests and paired arginine infusion tests were performed on eight and six normal female volunteers respectively. On 1 of the 2 test days for each growth hormone stimulus, subjects were given 60 g corn oil (Lipomul) 3 hr before testing followed by intravenous heparin (5000 U) ...
